About Me: I
am a wife to Matthew and mother to our four children
(three girls and a boy) aged between 4 and 10. We live in
Canberra and I work part-time.
I
couldn’t live without music – I love all kinds. I am fascinated with words and take pleasure in a
good story. I
also enjoy reading and discussing politics and theology. I like to bake and make my own household goods,
for environmental and ‘homemade’ reasons. I long to be tidier, thinner and more driven. I love art and I love to create.
I
have been scrapbooking for around 5 years – though I
have ‘scrapbooked’ in some form for a long time, as
I presented photos in albums along with memorabilia and
some notes. It
wasn’t until I was introduced to a particular party
plan in 2003 that I realised there were products
specifically manufactured for this purpose! When I discovered the wider world of scrapbooking
and online communities in the years that followed,I
became hooked! Now,
I scrap almostevery
day – it’s my way to wind down.
My Scrapping Life: I mostly create layouts and
cards, and I occasionally make off the page projects -
but I like my OTP projects to be functional as well as
pretty. Two
of my projects have been published as projects in
Australian scrapbooking magazines.
My
Advent calendar was published in Scrapbooking Memories
Vol 8. No. 5 (2006), and a wall hanging was published in
Scrapbook Creations No. 43 (2007).
My Scrapping Style, Favourite Products
and Techniques:
My
layouts are generally designed to be uncluttered, but
include homey, crafty touches as well. Buttons are a regular feature!
My
favourite product is probably patterned paper, because
it is so versatile … it can be used as background, for
matting, as ribbon strips, for embellishing, for titles
and more! Still,
I love using different products on my projects, and I am
a firm believer that ANY scrapbooking product can be
used effectively.
My
favourite techniques are stitching (machine or by hand)
and painting, though I try anything and everything! I like to experiment – I wish all my
experiments were as successful as I wish them to be!
My Inspiration:
I
find inspiration in photographs – in the people or the
scenes the photographs are capturing. My scrapbooking focus is on telling stories and
celebrating relationships.
Consequently
my designs tend to be reasonably simple, and I am
inspired by lines and geometric shapes I encounter, and
colour combinations I see in my life. I often experiment by teaming products together.
My Scrapbooking Philosophy:
To
me, scrapbooking isn’t just about putting photos on
pretty paper, but recording life – the special
moments, the personalities, the meaningful
relationships, and the everyday ‘now’ (as it is more
insightful to look back on me recording my life at
present, rather than trying to recall it down the
track). And
it is important to me that the viewer knows WHY
something has been recorded in a layout – why a
photograph or a memory is special or significant – not
only that the layout looks attractive.
